Relive the thrills and spills of last week’s matches!

Belmont Wanderers U14 vs Westfields Youth

Final Score: Won 4-1
Player of the Match: Edy
Coach’s Summary: *”Outstanding result for the boys against a strong Westfields team. Westfields had a few top level guest players in their team today but we knew if we stuck to our game plan we would out battle and outclass them as a team and thats just what we did.

Pressing from the front, moving the ball into pockets before finding the killer through ball and winning everything at the back, we dominated the game and come away frustrated we didn’t manage to finish more of our chances!

Players of the match were Jack and Edy.

Jack was absolutely incredible again today, won every battle and started attacks from the back. Outstanding performance 💪🏻

Edy like Jack also won absolutely everything with Dylan next to him. Since Edy joined in the summer it’s no fluke that our defensive record has improved massively and his impact has been a huge part of that!

Special mention also to Jayden who has covered Riley in goal for us the past 4 games due to Riley breaking his wrist. Jayden has been incredible for us and was outstanding again today!

Well done boys 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻”*

Belmont U13 Boys vs Toros FC

Final Score: Won 12-0
Player of the Match: Otis
Coach’s Summary: *”Belmont Wanderers U13s Dominate in Thrilling Derby Victory!

The Belmont Wanderers U13s lit up the home pitch yesterday in a scintillating local derby against Toros! The boys, fired up by the coaching mantra of treating every opponent with respect and approaching each game with unwavering focus, delivered a performance to remember.

From the first whistle, the Wanderers showed their intent. It wasn’t long before they earned a free kick about 35 yards from goal. Up stepped Ethan, our confident left-back, who had boldly predicted before the match that he would score from outside the box. And boy, did he deliver! With a thunderous strike, he unleashed an absolute worldy, sending the ball soaring into the top corner! The crowd erupted, and Ethan’s teammates mobbed him in celebration!

Ethan’s stunning opener ignited a goal-scoring frenzy! The first half saw a deluge of goals, a staggering eight in total for the Wanderers. But more impressive than the goals themselves was the team’s relentless attitude. Every time they found the back of the net, the cry of “0-0, let’s go again!” echoed across the pitch, showcasing their insatiable hunger for success. The team’s passing, movement, and overall teamwork were a joy to behold!

The second half presented an opportunity for some tactical experimentation. Coaches shifted players into different positions, allowing them to experience roles they don’t typically occupy. While the team still managed to score four more goals, they appeared less cohesive than in the first half. This provided a valuable learning experience for the players, highlighting the importance of positional discipline and the impact of consistent teamwork.

Despite the scoreline, immense credit goes to Toros, who battled tirelessly throughout the match and never gave up. Their fighting spirit was commendable.

A performance like this provides important coaching points, and it was discussed what can be done better for the next game.

Man of the Match: A resounding round of applause for Otis, who was absolutely ruthless in front of goal, bagging an incredible six goals! His clinical finishing and relentless work rate were instrumental in the team’s victory.

Next week, the Wanderers travel to Ludow. The team is focused and determined to build on this momentum. Well done, boys! It’s our time!

Belmont Wanderers Ladies vs Hereford Lads Club Ladies

Final Score: Won 3-2
Player of the Match: Nicole
Coach’s Summary: *”What a Cup Clash! Belmont Wanderers Ladies Advance After Thrilling Victory!

Yesterday saw a barnstorming encounter at home as our Belmont Wanderers Ladies faced a determined Lads Club side in a cup tie that will be talked about for weeks! Knowing the calibre of our opponents, a team we’ve faced before and who have proven to be a tough nut to crack, our ladies knew they had to leave everything on the pitch. And boy, did they deliver!

From the first whistle, the game was a whirlwind of energy and passion. Both teams went at it hammer and tongs, creating a spectacle of end-to-end football that was simply captivating. It wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken when the lightning-fast Lydia found herself through on goal and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper – 1-0 to the Wanderers! The crowd erupted!

Lads Club, however, were not about to roll over. They responded with relentless pressure and eventually found an equaliser, Hazel in goal had no chance 1-1. The tension was palpable, but our ladies showed their mettle. Captain fantastic Ellie, leading by example, surged forward, battling for every ball, and with a moment of pure brilliance, rifled the ball into the back of the net! 2-1 to Belmont!

A tactical substitution saw the tireless Nicole, who put in an absolutely unbelievable performance, get a well-deserved rest. Nicole, a true embodiment of sportsmanship and a joy to be around, transformed into a fiery competitor on the pitch, earning her Player of the Match for her incredible efforts. She was replaced by her equally eager sister, Monique, who has been itching to get on the scoresheet. And she didn’t disappoint! With a well-placed shot, Monique coolly extended our lead to 3-1 before the half-time whistle!

Knowing the importance of the next goal, the second half was a masterclass in game management mixed with fierce attacking intent. The football continued to be exhilarating, end-to-end stuff. With just 12 minutes remaining, Lads Club clawed one back, making it 3-2. The pressure was on!

The final minutes were a frantic, nail-biting affair, with Lads Club throwing everything they had at us. The atmosphere was electric, both teams desperately vying for glory! But our Wanderers Ladies stood firm. They defended with courage and determination, holding on to secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory and a place in the next round!

What truly shone through, and this is a testament to both sides, was the raw passion and competitive spirit on display. There were tough tackles, passionate words, and maybe even a little bit of “banter” between players and coaches (resulting in a booking for one coach!). While we certainly don’t condone unsportsmanlike behaviour, it was a classic example of proper Sunday football – fiercely competitive on the pitch but underpinned by mutual respect and camaraderie off it. This is what the beautiful game is all about!

A massive well done to all the Ladies! We face Ross in the next round of the cup. Before that we’re away to Westfields next week, so let’s keep this momentum going!
