Coach’s Summary: *”Match Report: Belmont Wanderers U13 vs Belmont Wanderers Hammers – Derby Day!

Yesterday, our U13 Belmont Wanderers boys faced off against our very own Hammers team in a thrilling derby match. It’s always tough playing one of your own sides — friendships had to be set aside for 70 minutes as both teams went all out for the win.

The game kicked off with the Hammers absolutely flying. They came out strong and immediately put us under pressure, threatening our goal several times in the opening 10–15 minutes. It wasn’t long before they earned a corner — a great delivery dropped right on top of our keeper, chaos followed in the box, and one of the Hammers slotted it home. 1–0 down.

We’ve been in that position before, and the boys knew they had to lift their heads and go again. Slowly, we began to grow into the game, turning the pressure back on them. It wasn’t long before Stan found himself through on goal — cool as you like — and made it 1–1.

The match continued at a brilliant intensity, with end-to-end football and some fantastic play from both sides. Then came a crucial moment: Stan once again broke in behind the defence, almost a straight 1v1 race. The Hammers’ centre-back just clipped his heels in the box — arguably smart defending, as it was either that or a certain goal. Stan stepped up for the penalty and calmly slotted it past the keeper. 2–1 to us, and the momentum was shifting!

The boys rallied, shouting, “0–0, we go again!” — exactly the mentality we love to see. Soon after, I witnessed something straight from the training ground: the ball was worked wide to Bailey, who’s fast becoming our assist king. He whipped in a perfect cross to find Harvey right in front of goal — boom — 3–1, and Harvey’s first goal of the season! An action-packed first half!

At halftime, we felt good. The message was simple: protect the result.

The second half started with both teams going toe-to-toe once again, and the score remained 3–1 for a while. Then, after another great battle down the right, a cross into the box found Bailey, who was perfectly placed for a tap-in — 4–1! And that’s how it finished.

An outstanding display of football and a fantastic advert for Belmont Wanderers. Both teams were a credit to the club.
